Mini-LP sleeved CD version of '71 Gong classic.
Digitally re-mastered Snapper version of the very expensive (£29.00 and more) Japanese mini-LP sleeved CD edition of Gong's 1971 classic. As this is really all about the sleeve…it's a glossy reproduction of the original gatefold with the Phil Franks colour band shot inside. But isn't the front cover daevid drawing/logo a little high?
Leaving aside murky royalty and publishing concerns, the booklet - slipped in one side of the cover - is yet a another reproduction of John Platt's band history that has accompanied all Charly-related issues of this album forever. Thus the opportunity is missed for some fresh writing and images, including the original entertaining lyric sheets drawn by daevid.
After some very close listening I really couldn't hear much difference between this 'digitally re mastered' edition and the SNAP 009 CD, perhaps a little more compression? However if you ever fancied the Japanese mini-LP sleeved edition but didn't want to pay it's very high price this version will do the job nicely. The music of course is still brilliant.
Note: Unfortunately, the only way the musicians will benefit in any way from sales of this release is if you buy it here - otherwise they can expect no royalties on sales or publishing.
